Message from the Superintendent

Hello Raider Nation!

As we approach the start of the 2025–26 school year, I want to thank you again for your partnership and enthusiasm as we prepare to welcome students back. Our staff has been hard at work to ensure a strong and positive start for every student.

As you make your final preparations for the start of school, please take a moment to review the following:

  • Transportation: Up-to-date bus schedules are available in your Parent Portal.

  • Menus: All menus are now available by building.

  • Event Calendar: Stay connected and don’t miss out on upcoming Raider events!

We’ll continue to keep you informed through district and school newsletters, emails, and our website. If you haven’t already, please ensure your contact information is up to date in our Infinite Campus Parent Portal system so you don’t miss any important announcements.

We are truly excited to welcome your children back into our schools. The first days of school are such a special time, and we’re committed to making it a safe, supportive, and inspiring start for all. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kristine Wehrkamp Herman

Families READ Toolkit to Expand Student Reading Skills at Home

Families READ Toolkit to Expand Student Reading Skills at Home
MDE has announced Families READ, a new toolkit designed by educators to help families support their children’s reading skills at home. This collection provides families and caregivers with age-specific information and simple activities in five core reading skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

The Families READ Toolkit resources and activities can be integrated into families’ everyday lives and are available now on the Students and Families Literacy page of MDE’s website. Copies of free literacy games will also be available for visitors at the MDE booth in the Education Building at the Minnesota State Fair.

Transportation Routing Information

Transportation routing information, including courtesy bus stop details, is now available on the Campus Portal by clicking “More” and then “Bus Information.” Please remember to recheck routing information closer to the start of the school year, as minor adjustments may still be made. If your pickup or dropoff location is inaccurate, please contact your child’s Building Office.

As a reminder, the district had an opt-out of transportation for students in grades K–8 and an opt-in for students in grades 9–12. This information has been updated in the Campus Portal. If your information is not accurately reflected, please email jseubert@isd200.org.

The walking distance for elementary students is a .75-mile radius from the school and a 1.75-mile radius for secondary students. Detailed maps of the walking areas are available on the district’s website.

Immunizations:
Please check your child’s health portal in Infinite Campus to make sure their immunizations are up to date. Students in Kindergarten, 7th, and 12th grade need additional vaccinations. Per the Hastings School Board Immunization Requirements Policy #530, the student or the student’s parent or guardian shall provide 1) up-to-date immunization records, 2) a medical exemption, or 3) a notarized non-medical exemption form before the first date of attendance.

If a parent chooses not to immunize their child, the student immunization form needs to be signed by the parent and notarized, stating the specific immunizations to which they object, and given to the nurse at school.

As a service to parents, the nurses update some student immunizations using the state immunization database known as MIIC (Minnesota Immunization Information Connection). If you have opted with your clinic to have this information posted, the nurse can access your child’s immunization information online and update your child’s immunizations in Infinite Campus. The MIIC registry ONLY provides immunization information. NO OTHER health information is available or accessible.

Low-cost vaccines are available from Dakota County for children and adults who do not have health insurance or have health insurance that does not cover vaccines. Free vaccines for children who are on an MN Health Care Program or are American Indian or Alaskan Native. Walk-in, no appointment needed, mobile clinics are offered on an occasional basis at places throughout Dakota County. Other vaccine clinics are available by appointment only at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley and West St. Paul.

Medications at School:
Students who take medication at school need to have updated medication forms each school year. Written parent/guardian permission is needed for ANY medication administered at school. Prescription medications and any medication given more than 10 times in a given school year also need to have written permission from the student’s health care provider. Medications need to be in their original container and properly labeled.

  • Non-Prescription Medication Form

  • Prescription Medication Form

Health Concerns:
If your child has a health concern that may affect them during the school day, please share this information with the nurse in your child’s school. New action plans with doctor’s orders are required YEARLY. Plans need a health care provider AND parents' written signatures. Please send fully completed permission forms and medications to the nurse as early as August 18, 2025

For more information, check out the Health Services website.

Minnesota Free School Meals Program

Filling out the educational benefits application could qualify your family for reduced participation fees. Please fill it out HERE.

What is the Minnesota Free School Meals Program?

The Minnesota Free School Meals Program provides state reimbursement to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program so that students can have one breakfast and one lunch at no cost at school.

Can the meals be picked up or brought home like we did during the pandemic?

No. Congregate meal service is required in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Meals may not be taken off campus, sent home, delivered, or picked up by parents or others.

Do I still need to complete the Application for Educational Benefits?

Families need to complete the Application for Educational Benefits. Applications for Educational Benefits determine how much funding your child’s school receives for educational programs and support. Additionally, eligible families can qualify for other benefits, such as:

  • WIC Benefits

  • Metro Transit Assistance Program

  • FCC Affordable Connectivity Program/Reduced-price internet programs

  • Some summer camps, athletics programs, and child care providers offer scholarships or discounts

What is included in the MN Free School Meals Program?

The student must choose at least three items to be counted as a reimbursable meal at breakfast. The student must choose a ½ cup serving of fruit or a vegetable as part of their breakfast. At lunch, the student must choose at least three components to be counted as a reimbursable meal. The student must choose a ½ cup serving of fruit or a vegetable as part of their lunch.

What is NOT included in the MN Free School Meals Program?

Single-item purchases and non-reimbursable meals are not free. Some examples include: a carton of milk, snack items, a second entrée, a second breakfast, or a second lunch, meals that do not meet the minimum requirements, and meals served to teachers, staff, and other adults.

The price for student breakfast and lunch meals will be $0 for all sites.

Fill out the Form! The Application for Education Benefits helps determine how much education funding your school will receive. Complete an application for your student for the school year 2025-26.

  • Students and families may qualify for other program fee reductions based on their eligibility for free or reduced-price meals. Parents should complete an Application for Education Benefits.

  • Only meals that meet the requirements are reimbursed. Students who want additional or single items will be charged for those items.

  • The 2025-26 Free and Reduced Meal Application is on the district website under Food Service, and a paper application has been mailed out to families.
