Raider Families and Staff,
Raider Families and Staff,
With a heavy heart, today’s Raider Update is dedicated to remembering and honoring board director Jenny Wiederholt-Pine, a devoted leader and dedicated mother of three. As both a parent and a board member, she was deeply committed to serving our community, always placing students at the heart of her work. Her passion, dedication, and unwavering advocacy inspired me and her fellow board members, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to guide and uplift us. Jenny’s presence will be profoundly missed. On behalf of the district, we extend our deepest condolences to her family during this difficult time.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of Hastings Public Schools. If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tamara Champa
Superintendent, Hastings Public Schools
For 31 years, Ms. Anne Stoneberg has been a dedicated and invaluable part of ISD 200, and our schools are deeply grateful for the community members who devote their careers to making a positive impact.
Currently serving as the coordinator for the Raiders Study Center at the High School, Anne plays a pivotal role in helping students develop skills for lifelong learning. “The Raiders Study Center is a guided study space where we focus on the importance of organization, building connections, and managing daily homework. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the joy and pride in a student after they’ve worked hard to overcome a challenge,” she shares.
Whether working with students or colleagues, Anne is known for her unwavering respect, integrity, and perseverance. We’re grateful that she’s passing these vital qualities on to our students.
Anne has loved working in our public schools, especially as it allowed her to raise her four children within the same system. The Stoneberg family is a true example of Raider Pride! “My family, including my two sweet grandsons, inspire and challenge me to be curious, accepting, helpful, adventurous, patient, confident, and grateful,” Anne says.
Outside of her work with students, Anne enjoys traveling through life’s journey with her husband, Brad. She also loves spending time in the garden, taking daily walks, reading, listening to podcasts, and hosting family and friends.
Thank you, Ms. Stoneberg, for your dedication to our schools over the years. We are so fortunate to have an incredible staff member like you who helps our students thrive!
Over the past month, Ambassadors for Respect team from the STAARS Transition Program gave a presentation to the 4th grade classes at Pinecrest about including others, using first person language and advocating for themselves and others.
More information about the program......
Our Ambassadors for Respect team from the STAARS Transition Program would like to provide one or more of your 4th grade classrooms with a free, interactive training that helps 4th graders build community and learn skills such as:
Including others
Using Person First Language
Advocating for themselves and others
We hope that you would like to schedule a training session with us this year. Teachers that host us for our training receive a free teacher resource guide with suggested books, videos, and lesson plans to help them continue anti-bullying lessons in their classrooms. Your students will also be provided with some giveaways that may include buttons, cards, and/or post-it notes.
A team of individuals who have a developmental disability–and who attend a transition program in Hastings Public Schools–provide the 45-minute training. They share their personal experiences with bullying to engage 4th grade students. They provide all training materials, which means no prep time for teachers. Students only need a pen or pencil to participate.
Elementary School is the best time to change the trajectory of bullying. This training can initiate or strengthen your school's efforts by providing a recipe to reduce bullying. Our trainings also support social emotional learning curriculum, by helping students develop empathy.
Hastings High School proudly announces that Lukas Foss and Haley Strain have received the 2025 Apollo and Athena awards.
These annual awards are given to the outstanding senior-class athletes, one male (Apollo) and one female (Athena). They are based on excellence and individual and team sports accomplishments throughout the student-athlete’s career. Both one-sport and multi-sport athletes are considered. The award is an athletic award, with other achievements like leadership, character, and GPA included but secondary. A vote of all HHS head coaches selected Lukas and Haley.
Lukas Foss has earned nine (9) varsity letters as a football, basketball, and track and field participant. He is a 2x captain in all three sports and received the “Raider Award” for best representing the core values of HHS athletics in basketball and football. He is involved in Peer Helpers, the Athlete Leadership Council, and the National Honor Society, where he is an elected officer. Lukas maintains a 4.0 GPA, is ranked #1 in his class, received the 2024 ExCEL Award for service and leadership, and volunteers with Little Raiders football, traveling basketball, and GobbleGait. Lukas plans to attend Carleton College, where he will play football and double-major in economics and math.
Haley Strain has earned nine (9) varsity letters as a volleyball, basketball, and softball participant. She has a combined six all-conference (two in each) and three all-conference honorable mention awards (one in each) in her three sports. She was voted offensive player of the year twice in volleyball, and she had improved most during her career. She was an academic all-state in 2024. In basketball has exceeded both 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. She was voted team MVP three times in softball and was named to the all-section team in 2024. She is involved in FCA, Spanish Honor Society, Link Crew, and National Honor Society. She maintains a 3.95 GPA and volunteered with youth softball and basketball.
Haley plans to attend Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville to play softball and study nursing.
The Athena Award winner is honored at the St. Paul Athena Banquet in April. The Apollo and Athena winners will be honored at the May Raiders Sports Awards recognition event at Hastings High School.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our bus drivers from Hastings Bus Company for their continued partnership. Your dedication means so much to both our students and the entire community.
