Dear HHS Parents, Guardians and Students,
|
It’s been another full and meaningful week in our school community. Last week’s Raider Connect was especially impactful, as local business professionals partnered with students to strengthen employability skills and share real-world insights. We are grateful for the community members who invested their time and expertise in helping prepare our students for future success.
In addition, our lyceum featuring Native American author Anton Treuer was an outstanding experience. His message reached hundreds of high school students, encouraging thoughtful dialogue, cultural understanding and reflection, while also sharing his thoughts on his writing process.
Looking ahead, we have parent–teacher conferences Thursday evening and all day Friday. These conversations are a valuable opportunity to connect, review progress, and support students together. We are also entering a busy stretch of end-of-winter athletics and activities and we wish all of our students the best as they compete and represent our school with pride. Warmly, Scott Doran |

This year, we welcomed Anton Treuer to our community!
Anton started his day at HHS, speaking to students about his book Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians but Were Afraid to Ask—encouraging understanding, critical thinking, and open conversation.
Thank you to Hastings Reads and to funding from the Ruth and George Doffing Charitable Gift Fund and the St Croix Valley Foundation. |

This week's faculty feature is Dana Strain! |
|
|
Mr. Strain is a valued member of the Hastings High School community, teaching both Honors Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Essentials with dedication and care.
He has a remarkable ability to meet students where they are, challenging advanced learners to reach new heights while patiently supporting those who may be struggling. His calm demeanor creates a steady, reassuring presence in the classroom, helping students build both confidence and skills.
Beyond academics, Mr. Strain serves as our varsity football coach, where he continues to model leadership, integrity, and commitment. He is a role model not only for his athletes, but for all students, colleagues, and parents who are fortunate to work alongside him.
Congratulations Coach! |

Below are reminders about our cell phone policy at HHS
All cell phones must be put away during class time - even out in the pod or hallway. Students are allowed to use their phones during passing time and at lunch. This Policy carries through for the entire school year First Offense: The device confiscated and turned into the office
The student may pick up their device at the end of the day
Second Offense: The device confiscated and turned into the office The student may pick up their device at the end of the day Beyond the second offense : The device confiscated and turned into the office A parent/guardian must pick up the device from the Student Office
If cell phone usage continues to be an ongoing problem, principals will work with parents/guardians on a behavioral plan
