Principal Corner

Dear HMS Parents, Guardians, and Students,

In classrooms this week, students worked hard and made great progress across all subjects. It was inspiring to see how far they have come since the start of the year, and our teachers are proud of their effort and growth.

On Thursday evening, our 5th and 6th Grade Band concert showcased incredible student talent. It was the first concert experience for our 5th graders, and they shined after only a few months of practice. The auditorium was filled with proud families, and the music created a strong sense of community and celebration.

This week our 8th graders also returned from their three-day adventure at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center. They challenged themselves with outdoor learning and team-building activities, pushing beyond comfort zones and building confidence. We are proud of their leadership and collaboration, and thankful to the staff and parent chaperones who supported the trip.

Ryan Wynn

As we wrap up the week, I am thankful for the hard work of our students and the steady support of HMS families. Your presence at events, your encouragement at home, and your continued partnership all help make our school a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Go Raiders!

🏴‍☠️ Raider Way Updates

The Raider Way is a team of dedicated staff who work to ensure that everyone at HMS is being safe, respectful, and responsible by using the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework.

Supporting the Raider Way in your Family

We are always teaching and reteaching students at Hastings Middle School to be safe, respectful, and responsible. Last week students in advisory learned and discussed appropriate voice levels. Students were asked the following questions:

  • Why is using the appropriate voice level important?
  • What is the appropriate voice level for working on a group project, walking to lunch, and talking with friends in the hall?
  • How can you remind yourself and others to use the right level?

Family extension activity:

Consider asking your student to reflect on different voice levels in areas of our community. What voice level is appropriate for these places:

  • A grocery store
  • A friend’s house
  • Playing outside (at daytime / at nighttime)
  • Add your own ideas!

🏥 Keeping HMS Healthy

🩺 Health Office Updates

This is a friendly reminder from the HMS Health Office that a clearance note from your student’s doctor is required before they can return to physical education following an injury.
This helps us ensure your child’s safety and that they are fully ready to participate again.

Wishing everyone a safe and healthy weekend,
Nurse Erin and Nurse Katie 🌸
