Principal Corner

Dear Hastings Middle School Families,

This week at HMS was full of energy and community spirit as students dove into lessons, wrapped up projects, and enjoyed activities around the building. Looking ahead, our 5th/6th grade “Under the Sea” dance is scheduled for Friday, March 27 (6:30-8:00 PM) in the cafeteria, and we’d be grateful for family volunteers to help chaperone, staff concessions, or sell tickets, chaperones work 6:00-8:15; if you can help, please call the HMS Wellness Center at 651-480-7084 or sign up via the building calendar.

We’re continuing our Raider Way work to keep HMS a safe, respectful, and responsible place for everyone. After Spring Break we will reteach bathroom expectations to students on Monday, March 23, as we’ve seen an increase in unexpected bathroom behaviors and want routines and reporting to be very clear for students and adults. As always, we remind students and families that “clear is kind.”

We have so much to celebrate: congratulations to our Youth Art Month honorees, Lorelai Blaido (1st), Jolena Jallah (2nd), and Julia Schultz (4th), and to Owen Miller, our Cribbage Club champion. I’m also proud to share that our community has recorded 8,710 Raider Recognition tickets so far this year, which is a wonderful testament to students demonstrating the Raider Way.

Ryan Wynn

A reminder that spring sports registration is open (5-8 track and 5-8 boys tennis begin April 1), and there is no school March 16-20 for Spring Break; we’ll welcome students back on Monday, March 23.

Thank you for partnering with us, your support at home makes a big difference in students’ success and well-being. Enjoy the break, rest up, and we’ll see you after next week!

Go Raiders!

Maud Hart Lovelace Award Participation

This year, students have the opportunity to participate in the Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award program. An engaging reading experience that puts students in the role of readers and voters! To be eligible to vote, students must read or listen to at least three nominated books. Titles are available through the library media center and the public library, making it easy for students to participate. Along the way, students will develop a love of reading, share their thoughts, and build critical thinking skills. Ask your child which book they’re cheering for.
