Dear Hastings Middle School Families,
This week at Hastings Middle School was marked by focus, leadership, and steady progress as we moved through another busy stretch of spring. Our 5th and 8th grade students completed Science MCA testing, and our staff worked hard to create calm, supportive testing environments that helped students show what they knew. Even with adjusted routines, students continued responding to our Raider Way expectations, and it was encouraging to see them keep learning, problem solving, and taking responsibility throughout the week.
We also had several moments that reflected the heart of HMS. Our new WEB Leaders began stepping into their roles, April Level Up recipients were celebrated for their growth and character, and 8th grade earned this round of the Clean Up, People! award. Our daily announcements also continued to reinforce reading, responsibility, and gratitude, including a reminder to recognize National Lunch Hero Day. As we look ahead, we are preparing for more spring opportunities, including Outdoor Club, advisory fundraising for Hastings Family Service, and upcoming grade-level field trips and end-of-year celebrations.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we help students finish the year strong.

Clean Up, People Award at HMS
Hastings Middle School students worked to create the Clean Up, People (CUP) award this spring to recognize clean hallways, bathrooms, and flexible spaces such as seating areas and stairways in our school. Representatives from our student council helped us create this award and voting system and we are now in our fourth week of awarding grade levels the CUP award. So far, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students have won this award and have been awarded an extra day of going outside during advisory!

We have been seeing an uptick in sore throats, along with a gastrointestinal (GI) bug circulating in the building this week. This has led to an increase in stomach aches and vomiting among students.
Please continue to monitor your student for symptoms and keep them home if they are not feeling well. To help limit the spread:
|
- Encourage frequent handwashing
-
Remind students to avoid sharing food or drinks
- Ensure they are getting plenty of rest and fluids
|
Students should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Thank you for helping us keep HMS healthy, Nurse Erin and Nurse Katie 🌸

Lost and found items are primarily located near the gym. These include clothing, water bottles, hats, and similar items, which students can collect during the school day. After school, students and families can access these items by entering through the gymnasium doors.
Smaller valuables, such as headphones and jewelry, are kept at the Welcome Center. These can be retrieved during school hours or after school until 3:30 pm.
Please remind your child to regularly check the lost and found for any missing items throughout the school year. Unclaimed items will be donated on the following dates:
