May Newsletter

Principal Corner

Ryan Wynn

Dear HMS Parents, Guardians, and Students,

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final stretch of the school year! May is a time filled with excitement, celebration, and reflection. As we wrap up the school year, I want to recognize the hard work and progress our students and staff have shown throughout the year.

MCA Testing – Wrapping Up Strong

We are currently finishing up our MCA testing, with Science assessments concluding this week. These assessments are a valuable opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned, and I am incredibly proud of the focus and effort they've demonstrated. Thank you to our families for supporting students with reminders to get good sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a positive attitude each day.

We use these assessments to inform our instruction and measure student growth. While the results don’t tell the whole story, they are one of many tools we use to support learning and celebrate success.

Quarter 4 in Full Swing

We are fully engaged in Quarter 4. This is a time for students to demonstrate mastery, build momentum, and enjoy some well-earned celebrations. From field trips and end-of-year activities to continued classroom learning, this is a time of both rigor and fun.

Please remind your child that every day still matters. Attendance, organization, and effort make a big difference this time of year, especially as students finish projects, prepare for finals, or participate in transition activities.

Looking Ahead

The final weeks of school will include many celebrations, recognitions, and transition events, particularly for our 8th graders as they prepare for high school, and for our incoming 5th graders getting ready to join the HMS family. Keep an eye on our school communications for details on important end-of-year events.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together this year and we’re excited to finish strong!

Go Raiders!

Tug of War

Get Ready for the Annual HMS Tug of War!

Mark your calendars—our much-anticipated HMS Tug of War returns on Friday, May 16th! This exciting event is not just about strength and spirit—it's also about giving back.

Here's how it works: the top two advisory classes in each grade that raise the most in donations will earn their spot in the Tug of War showdown. This is a community service project, so students are encouraged to help out at home, in the neighborhood, or for family friends, and then donate their hard-earned money to their advisory class.

Important Details:

  • Cash and checks only (no coins, please!)

  • Checks must be made payable to Hastings Family Service

  • Every dollar stays local and goes directly to support Hastings Family Service

The classes that qualify don’t just compete—they show up in full force with creative team names, fun themes, and amazing costumes! And the best part? The overall student champions get to take on the staff in the final round!

Last year we raised over $5,000—can we beat that this year?
Final day to turn in donations: Friday, May 9th

Let’s come together, have fun, and make a difference in our community!
