Hastings Middle School

Principal Corner

Ryan Wynn

Dear HMS Parents, Guardians, and Students,

I hope that your family has settled into the rhythm of the new school year. The past few weeks at Hastings Middle School have been nothing short of energizing. It has been fantastic to witness our students' enthusiasm as they dive into their academics, extracurricular activities, and new friendships. We’ve truly kicked off the year on a strong note.

October is a significant month for us here at HMS. As the leaves change, so do the dynamics in our classrooms and hallways. We're focusing on refining our Raider Way PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework to ensure that we are consistently fostering a positive school culture. This work is essential in helping us meet our academic and behavioral goals for the year. We appreciate your continued partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home.

Our academic goals remain a top priority as well. We are working diligently to increase our student achievement in Math, Science, and Reading. With that in mind, please encourage your students to stay organized, use their planners and binders, and seek help from their teachers when needed. Success is a team effort, and we are committed to helping each student reach their full potential.

Additionally, I’d like to remind you of some key events this month. Fall conferences are coming up, and they provide an excellent opportunity for you to connect with your child's teachers and discuss their progress. We’re looking forward to these conversations and the continued collaboration that helps support student growth.

As always, thank you for your support and commitment to our school community. Let’s continue to work together to make this school year one of growth, success, and joy for every student. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Go Raiders!

Sincerely,
Ryan Wynn

Food Deliveries
We know it is fun to treat your child, but we ask that you do not send food deliveries during the school day. This takes away from us efficiently running the building; food is often delivered after the intended time. If your child forgets their lunch, school lunch is free!

Breakfast
Please remind your child, if they are getting breakfast at school, to report to the cafeteria right when they get to school to ensure they are in class at the beginning of first hour.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found has filled up. We want your child to get their items back!

Remind your student we have two lost and found locations: in the cafeteria and outside the gym.

The first round of lost and found donations is happening soon! At the end of the day on Wednesday, October 16th lost and found items will be donated. These items will be outside the Welcome Center on October 14th-16th for parents to look for any missing items. The times for this are below:
Monday, October 14th: 8:30am-1:30pm
Tuesday, October 15th: 8:30am-1:30pm and 4:30-8:30pm
Wednesday, October 16th: 8:30am-3:30pm

Organization

As we continue to focus on ensuring our students are well-prepared for success, we want to emphasize the importance of effective organization and planning.

We ask for your support in partnering with us by checking your student’s planner each day. This is an essential tool to help students stay on top of their studies, and your involvement plays a crucial role in ensuring they are organized and ready for the challenges ahead. By regularly reviewing their planners, you can help them stay accountable and manage their workload effectively.

Raider-Thon

We are excited to get support again through the iMaGine Foundation! The iMaGine Foundation will be running the Raider-Thon again this year. The Raider-Thon is a fundraiser that raised $34,000 to fund field trips for HMS students. The goal is to raise more this year! All funds raised stay with the grade and any unspent funds will be given to that grades all night grad party when they are seniors.

The more money raised, the more incentives your child will earn! Incentives include Culver's tokens, gift cards, Raider clothing, and an Owala Water Bottle. The top student fundraiser will also earn a top prize!

Raider-Thon 2024 will begin October 14th. Stay tuned for more information!

Halloween

With Halloween just around the corner, we are excited to see students celebrate in the festive spirit! Costumes are welcome on Thursday, October 31st, but we ask that all students follow a few guidelines to ensure a fun and safe environment for everyone:

  • No weapons (real or pretend)

  • No masks

  • No face paint

  • No hats

Please also remember that costumes should be school-appropriate and not cause any disruptions to class. If you're unsure whether a costume is appropriate, it’s best to play it safe—if you think it might be inappropriate, it probably is!

Thank you for helping us make Halloween a fun and enjoyable day for everyone!

Parent Involvement
