Message from the Superintendent:

Superintendent Champa

Dear Raider Families and Staff,

As we close out the school year, this season is filled with well-deserved celebrations and meaningful milestones—none more significant than graduation. In this final update of the year, you’ll find important information about commencement, an upcoming change to credit card processing fees beginning July 1, and a note of gratitude and appreciation to the Hastings community.

Commencement
As we approach graduation, I find myself—like many of you—keeping a close eye on the weather forecast. Our current plan is to hold the Class of 2025 Commencement Ceremony at Todd Field on Friday, June 6, at 7:00 PM.

Should inclement weather arise, we will move the ceremony indoors to the Hastings High School gymnasium. Any updates or changes will be communicated as early as possible.

We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our students, families, and the entire Hastings community.

Credit Card Processing Fee Update
Earlier this year, the School Board approved a series of budget adjustments totaling over $1.4 million. As part of these adjustments, the district will begin passing credit card processing fees on to the user.

Currently, the district partners with several vendors whose processing fees range from 3.5% to 4.75%, depending on the provider. This change will take effect beginning July 1.

To help families avoid these fees, a locked payment drop box will be installed at the District Office, offering a secure, no-fee option for submitting payments.

Gratitude and Appreciation

As I prepare to transition from Hastings at the end of June, I want to extend my deepest thanks for the incredible support I’ve received over the past two years. It has truly been an honor to serve this community.

To our staff, students, and families—you are second to none. Your passion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to one another make Hastings a truly special place. I will always be grateful for the relationships, the shared accomplishments, and the opportunity to be part of this chapter in the district’s story.

While my role is changing, my support for Hastings remains steadfast. I will forever be one of your biggest cheerleaders and look forward to celebrating all the great things still to come.

Free Meals for Kids

With MDE, the Free Meals for Kids mobile app was created to support summer meal programs utilizing the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Free Meals for Kids helps families and kids locate free healthy meals across Minnesota. GPS powers the App and shows locations of schools and community sites providing meals, with days and hours of operation. It also shows the distance and directions to the nearest site from your area.  The App is updated regularly, even daily, to make sure the information is current. The mobile App also includes the Resources+Food button to help families. This button includes links to United Way's 211, Hunger Solutions' Find Help Map, as well as SNAP, WIC, and MFIP assistance.

Please note that although these tools are being updated daily, they will not be up-to-date until the school year ends. Many sites are still working to finalize their schedules, so don’t worry - the resources will be validated and fully operational in time for summer break!

No registration or prior sign-up is necessary for most sites. The sites that require prior registration are marked on the site information. There are also free serving sites across the state at schools, parks, recreation centers, community centers, and libraries. All kids up to age 18 can locate the nearest site, show up at the right time, and eat.
