Kennedy Connection 10/10

Dear Kennedy Families,

Last Thursday, Kennedy was full of excitement as our students joined in the annual PTA Fun Run! From kindergarten through fourth grade, students ran, cheered, and supported each other and tried to keep pace with the Cougar mascot. Students had the opportunity to challenge themselves and celebrate their personal achievements while supporting our school. We loved seeing the teamwork and encouragement among friends—it’s exactly the kind of Cougar spirit we encourage and celebrate every day.

A huge thank you goes out to our PTA board members, volunteers, staff, and families who made this event possible. Your time, energy, and support help fund important programs, classroom resources, and activities that enhance learning and make Kennedy an even better place for our students. It was a fun evening filled with smiles, laughter, and Cougar pride.

Fall Conferences Next Week

As we head into next week, we’re looking forward to connecting with families during fall conferences. These conferences are an important opportunity to celebrate your child’s growth, review their progress so far, and discuss goals for the months ahead. Teachers will share insights about academic progress, social development, and ways we can continue partnering to support your child’s success.

To make the most of your conference, consider asking questions such as:

  • What skills should my child focus on improving most right now?

  • How is my child performing compared to grade-level expectations?

  • What strategies can we use at home to support what’s being taught in class?

  • How does my child approach new or challenging tasks?

  • Does my child participate and stay engaged during lessons?

  • How does my child handle transitions or directions in the classroom?

  • How does my child contribute to the classroom community?

  • What’s the best way to stay in touch about my child’s growth between conferences?

Thank you for taking the time to attend and engage in these important conversations—it truly makes a difference!

Sincerely,

Mr. Latch
Principal

Fundraiser Updates

Did you know that last year, nearly $20,000 of the money we raised was spent on field trips? The goal of the PTA is to not just subsidize the cost of these field trips, (as well as STEAM night, teacher appreciation, family nights, and the end-of-the-year carnival) but to fully fund them again this year through this fundraiser.

There's still time to donate!!
Send cash or check (made out to the Kennedy Cougar PTA) to the main office OR use the link below!

Curriculum Advisory Committee

We’re looking for family members who want to help shape learning in Hastings Public Schools! The Curriculum Advisory Committee works to review what students learn, how progress is measured, and how we can ensure every student experiences a rigorous and engaging education that challenges every student to thrive and succeed. This committee is composed of a majority of teaching staff, with representatives from school and district administration, as well as family and community members.

Members share feedback and ideas that help us improve access to great learning and ensure our curriculum reflects the strengths of our community.

The Committee meets at the Pinecrest Media Center from 5-6 pm on the following dates:
October 22
January 28
April 22

Please fill out this form if you are interested in joining the Committee. If we receive more interest than we have available to participate on the committee, we will conduct a random draw to determine who will serve.

Thanks,
