Dear Kennedy Families,
As we move through the middle of February, we are continuing to strengthen classroom routines and expectations to keep students feeling confident and focused. Even though we are well into the school year, taking time to revisit daily schedules and schoolwide procedures helps students stay organized, responsible, and ready to learn. Clear and consistent routines allow students to focus more on learning and building relationships and less on figuring out what comes next. Maintaining consistency this time of year supports both academic growth and positive social interactions.
Families can continue supporting strong routines at home by keeping predictable bedtimes and morning schedules. Preparing backpacks, lunches, and clothes the night before can make mornings smoother and less stressful. Talking through the next day and setting a specific reading time before bed are simple steps that help children feel calm, prepared, and ready to do their best.
Parent Question:
“What is one part of your school day this week that makes you feel excited or proud?”
Today we had an exciting visit from the Carpenter Nature Center! Students learned about animal adaptations found in our area, including toads, salamanders, turtles, hawks, and the barred owl. We explored how these animals survive using camouflage, physical features, and unique behaviors suited to Minnesota’s seasons.
This wonderful opportunity was made possible thanks to generous donations from a couple of Hastings residents. We are so grateful for their support in bringing hands-on learning experiences to our students. Thank you!
We also want to thank all of the families and friends contributing to the Kids Heart Challenge. So far, we have collected over $9,200, with 31 students completing “Finn’s Mission” and 45 families learning about hands-only CPR. Hastings is a generous community, and this is another wonderful example of that generous spirit. Thank you for supporting our Kennedy Kids!
To top off the week, classrooms enjoyed celebrations focused on friendship and sharing for Valentine’s Day. Students took time to recognize kindness, exchange notes, and celebrate the positive relationships that make our school community so special.
Sincerely,
Kyle Latch
