Kennedy Connection - September 12th

Dear Families,

We’ve had an exciting week at Kennedy! In STEM class, students have been exploring outside learning spaces and making connections between nature and science. Alongside this, students are working hard in their regular classrooms to practice expectations and routines. A big focus early in the year is on building strong connections and relationships, which help us create safe and supportive learning environments.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we start the year strong! The upcoming PTA meeting and NAPAC Cultural Craft Nights (details included in this newsletter) are both wonderful opportunities for families to be involved and stay connected with both our school and the wider district community.

Morning Meetings & Responsive Classroom In Action!

Every classroom at Kennedy begins the day with a Morning Meeting. This is a core practice from the Responsive Classroom approach and sets a positive tone for learning. During these meetings, students greet one another, share, and participate in activities that build community. These routines ensure that every student feels seen, valued, and included.

Building Belonging & Preventing Bullying

rumley

We know that social-emotional learning is just as important as academics. Early in the year, teachers are using Second Step lessons to help students practice belonging, cooperation, and problem-solving. These lessons are ongoing and give students tools to handle conflicts respectfully and help prevent bullying by strengthening kindness and understanding from the start.

Kennedy Cougar PTA

Our next PTA meeting will be held Monday, September 15th at 7pm in the Media Center.

All Kennedy families are welcome to attend! The PTA is a great way to connect with other parents and support school activities.

Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC) Event

napac

Hastings NAPAC is sponsoring Cultural Craft Nights this month. The first series will focus on ribbon shirt and ribbon skirt making on September 17 and September 24 (with a possible additional date of October 1), from 5:00–8:00 PM. The evenings will include a feast, teaching/tutorials, and support from experienced skirt/shirt makers. Sewing machines will be available. We hope many students will consider wearing their creations on Indigenous People’s Day (Oct. 13).
