Kennedy Connection - September 19th

Dear Kennedy Families,

One of the ways we help each student grow and succeed is through a strong system of interventions and support. Our staff are currently working on completing FastBridge assessments with each student. These assessments give us valuable information about your child’s current strengths and areas for growth in both reading and math. With this data, teachers and staff can better understand what each student needs to reach their full potential.

The next step in this process is for our staff to prepare intervention plans. These plans ensure that students who need extra support receive targeted instruction and strategies designed specifically for them. Our goal is to provide the right level of help at the right time so every student can thrive.

One simple but powerful way you can help at home is by practicing the weekly fluency passages your child brings home. Reading these short passages out loud several times during the week builds speed, accuracy, and confidence. Just a few minutes each night can make a big difference in your child’s reading progress.

We also want to give a big thank you to Mr. Van Duzer for teaching all of our students the Gaga Ball expectations this week! His guidance is helping students learn how to play safely, fairly, and with lots of Cougar spirit on the playground—showing that learning and growth happen in all areas of school life, not just in the classroom.

We know that every child can learn and grow, and these supports help us make sure all students get what they need. Thank you for working with us as we help your child do their very best at school. Fall conferences are a great time to connect with your child’s teacher about any of these assessments or interventions planned for your child.  Note: Fall Conferences information (as well as a link to sign up) will be communicated on Tuesday, September 23rd.

Sincerely,
Mr. Latch
Principal

Dismissal Changes

dismissal

A reminder: when there is a change to your child's normal dismissal plan, please contact the Main Office at 651-480-7220 by 2:30 pm.

This allows us adequate time to connect with your child's teacher. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that all students arrive home safely.

Car Pickup Reminders:

When you arrive at Kennedy, do not make a left turn into the parking lot. Left turns can cause traffic backups onto 10th Street. Following this guideline helps keep our dismissal process safe and efficient for all families.

As you approach the back of the building, we ask that you please wait in your vehicle and your student will be sent out to join you.

Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC) Event

napac

Hastings NAPAC is sponsoring Cultural Craft Nights this month. The first series will focus on ribbon shirt and ribbon skirt making on September 17 and September 24 (with a possible additional date of October 1), from 5:00–8:00 PM. The evenings will include a feast, teaching/tutorials, and support from experienced skirt/shirt makers. Sewing machines will be available. We hope many students will consider wearing their creations on Indigenous People’s Day (Oct. 13).
