Vision & Hearing Screening |
The health office will be conducting routine vision and hearing screenings for Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade students. Other students are screened on an as-needed basis for the following reasons: teacher or parent concern, referral for special education, or new to the school district. Screenings will be completed during the school day. You will be notified if your child has any concerns with vision or hearing after the screenings are completed. For more information, view the Vision & Hearing page on our website. Please reach out to the McAuliffe nurse with any other questions:

As the weather begins to cool, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for playing outside. Students spend twenty minutes outside for recess.
When the temperatures start to dip into the 40’s and 50’s, we do strongly recommend students to wear a light jacket or sweatshirt outside. When winter arrives, winter clothing will be required.

This year’s food drive benefits Hastings Family Service. Merchants Bank and area schools will collect monetary donations and non-perishable food items.
Through December 10th, students may fill a plastic or paper bag with items and drop them off in the green bins at school! A bin will be located near the main doors and bus doors at McAuliffe Elementary.

Student Delivery Procedures |
This school year, our student delivery procedures have changed. Deliveries for students will be very similar to what has already been in place at the middle school. Items such as forgotten backpacks, lunches, shoes, boots, etc. will be dropped off on a table just inside the main exterior doors. Please complete the yellow drop of slip and leave the item on the cart. Office staff will gather the items (on a very regular basis) and distribute them in a timely fashion. Items delivered for staff will be handled similarly, such items will be placed on the table and distributed accordingly.
|
Absences should be reported prior to the start of the school day. You may do this two ways: call the attendance line at 651-480-7391, or submit an absence request using your parent portal. If your child will be late to school, please make a note with the approximate time they will arrive. They will then be checked in with the actual time once they arrive to school. Early release requests must still be done by contacting the school attendance line.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING AN ABSENCE REQUEST

Select MORE and then ABSENCE REQUEST (or look under "Shortcuts" for the Absence Request link)

Please contact the office if there is a change of address during the school year. If the update requires a change in transportation, we will work with the bus company to make the appropriate updates. |
When there is a change to your child’s normal dismissal plan, please contact the Main Office at 651-480-7390by 2:30 pmif possible.
This allows us adequate time to connect with your child's teacher. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that all students arrive home safely. |

Illness and Keeping Your Child Home |
A student should not come to school (and may be sent home from school) if they have or have had: |
- a fever of 100 degrees F or more in the past 24 hours
- vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
- an undiagnosed skin rash
|
If your student will not be at school, please call and report the reason for their absence at 651-480-7391 or submit an absence through the parent portal. If your student is ill, please report their symptoms and/or any diagnosed communicable condition like chicken pox, strep throat, cough and fever, influenza, or pink eye. It is recommended that you follow the MDH and CDC exclusion guidelines for communicable diseases. |

Early Pick Up & Dismissal Changes |
In order to minimize interruptions to the classroom, students should not be picked up early unless it is an emergency. On those occasions when it is necessary to pick your child up during the school day, please go to the school office, with your ID, to sign your child out. If someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up, office must be notified in advance and their ID also is required. The office personnel will contact your child’s teacher to dismiss them and meet you in the office after you've arrived.
When there is a change to your child’s normal dismissal plan, please contact the main office at 651-480-7390 by 2:30 pm if possible.
Teachers will not release students unless the office gives prior approval. This practice has been established to help protect your child.
Your child's safety is of prime importance to us. There are a few procedure guidelines that help us maintain a secured building and limit the number of distractions to our classrooms. Our building is designed to have a single entry point during the school day. Please keep the following in mind:
|
- Always check in at the office whenever you are at school.
- We have a secure entrance, please ring the doorbell and state your reason for visiting.
- When delivering things for your child (ex. snow gear), please drop them off on the cart outside of the office. We will deliver articles or call your child down to the office.
|
Please bring your driver's license with you when you are checking out your student, volunteering, or visiting for lunch. |
