Reading and Phonics Focus
Reading continues to be a major focus as we start the new year. Students are practicing phonics skills, decoding strategies, and building reading fluency and comprehension. Teachers are supporting students as they apply letter sounds and word patterns to read independently and with confidence. Regular exposure to books at school and meaningful discussion about texts helps students deepen understanding and enjoy reading more fully.
Families can support reading at home by setting aside daily reading time, listening to children read aloud, and practicing phonics or word patterns when appropriate. Asking questions like “What do you think will happen next?” or “Why do you think the character did that?” encourages children to think critically and strengthens comprehension skills.
Parent Question: “What part of the book you read today made you think differently or surprised you?”
We look forward to seeing you this week at conferences, as we connect about the progress our students are making and plan for the remainder of the year!
Upcoming event - Join us for our second annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Night on Wednesday, March 4th from 5:30-7:30.
