Dear Families,

A strong partnership between school and home is one of the most important ways we can support elementary-aged students. Children grow and learn best when families and educators work together, share ideas, and encourage one another in helping kids succeed. At this stage, students are building the foundation for their academic skills, friendships, and problem-solving abilities. When the messages they hear at home and at school are consistent, it gives them a sense of comfort and confidence.

When families are involved in their child’s education, students often show more excitement for learning, better attendance, and stronger academic progress. Teachers also benefit from this partnership because parents and guardians know their children best. By sharing insights about strengths, interests, or challenges, families help teachers provide the right kind of support to help each student shine.

The benefits go far beyond academics. A strong connection between home and school helps children develop good habits, responsibility, and positive behavior. When kids see that their parents and teachers are on the same team, they feel more secure and know that the adults in their lives care deeply about their success. Families can help reinforce school routines and expectations at home, while schools can support the values and lessons that are important to families.

We’re so grateful to have opportunities to build these connections early in the year. Raider, Set, Go days were a wonderful success, with over 98% of families attending across the two days. And just last night, our annual Pinecrest Playground Picnic brought in a fantastic crowd with us serving 467 hot dogs! We would like to share a huge thank you to our PTA for making this great night possible.  Events like these remind us how lucky we are to partner with such an engaged and supportive community. Together, we create a caring environment where children are encouraged, challenged, and celebrated!

Joining our PTA or volunteering at events and activities is a great way to connect with other parents and support school activities. Our PTA meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:15 in the Media Center unless we do not have school on that day. (i.e Our December meeting is on the 8th.) You can find more information on their Facebook page (Pinecrest Elementary Community - Hastings, MN).

Another opportunity to connect with other school families is through our Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC) Events. Hastings NAPAC is sponsoring Cultural Craft Nights this month. The first series will focus on ribbon shirt and ribbon skirt making on September 17 and September 24 (with a possible additional date of October 1), from 5:00–8:00 PM. The evenings will include a feast, teaching/tutorials, and support from experienced skirt/shirt makers. Sewing machines will be available. We hope many students will consider wearing their creations on Indigenous People’s Day (Oct. 13).

Have a great weekend and read, read, read!
